Extensive reconstruction of Roslagsbana

Between 2017 and 2020, an extensive reconstruction of the Roslagsbanan at Båthamsvägen in Åkersberga was carried out, which included replacement of the level crossing with two new railway bridges and construction of new streets and roads. The work included complicated foundation work, and BEST-K operations was carried out during ongoing traffic on the tracks.

Scope of the project:

  • Concrete construction of two bridges and a trough: complex foundation work with concrete piles on old lakebed
  • BEST-K work on 1200-meter-long double track
  • Drainage system with built-in pump station, stormwater reservoir
  • District heating pipe, signal cables, electricity cables, road lighting
  • Wall construction including paving, roundabout, parking areas

Effective management and innovative solutions

Pavel's role as Production Manager involved leading, coordinating, and control production, as well as assisting the design manager in adapting the design for the best possible execution and production methods. Special solutions, such as reinforced earth walls and temporary track embankments, where innovative solutions were implemented, were highlights of the project.

Challenging foundations during operation

In this project, the main focus was on coordination and time planing, as it involved many different stakeholders and needed to be adapted to the train traffic timetable. Most of the project was carried out with the trains in traffic, which made safety coordination a top priority. Among other things, a complex foundation of concrete and steel piles was installed while one of the double tracks was still in use. A strategic and systematic approach to the working environment led to the contractor receiving SL's award for the safest contractor of the year.
